How to Get Free Phone and Text For Your Business

Whether you're in business for yourself, freelance for other businesses or do a combination of both setting a clear line between the personal and professional is one of the first things you need to do to improve your professional image and to be taken seriously by potential customers or clients.

Having your clients or customers contact you using your personal telephone number can lead to a variety of unintended problems that can cost you business and make you appear less than professional.

The problem is the cost for a whole new phone or an additional data plan is more than a lot of people who are just starting out or who have small budgets can afford. The answer is Google Voice.

Google Voice is an absolutely free cloud-based service that provides free voice calls and free text to anyone with a Gmail account. Google Voice not only provides free voicemail but saves and transcribes voicemail messages so that you can read them anytime.

All you have to do is click on the square where the Google apps are located at the upper right-hand corner of the screen when you're in Gmail then click the Voice icon. Fill out the form and select your number and you're good to go in just a few minutes. If you don't currently have a Gmail account you'll have to create on to access the service.

How Google Voice Works

Voice Calls

You'll need to provide either a landline or cellular number to receive calls from your Google Voice Number. You can only connect one phone number to your Google Voice account. When someone calls your Google Voice number Google Voice will call the number linked to your account to notify you that you have an incoming call. You can then connect or decline the call. If you miss a call you can receive email, push or other notifications depending upon your account settings.

Text

Text with Google Voice works the same way it does with any other wireless service provider except it's completely free. You can send and receive messages using your Google Voice number in real time with no delay.

Download the App

You can download the Google Voice app to your phone from Google Play or iTunes.
