The 1 Thing You Need to Be A Good Writer

Image
What’s the one thing you need to be a good writer? The answer may surprise you. You don’t need a college degree in English, journalism, creative writing, or communications to be a great writer. You don’t need to know all of the rules of grammar and speech by heart either. Believe it or not, the one thing you absolutely must have to be a good writer is confidence. You must believe in yourself. You must also believe in your ability to learn and grow. Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with studying to make yourself a better writer and earning a degree while you’re at it. But if you don’t believe in your ability to apply what you’ve learned in a real-life situation outside of the classroom you won’t make it very far. In my experience, writers are notoriously insecure about their capabilities and instead of writing something and declaring “I know this is good” they’re more likely to say “I don’t know if this is any good. Let me find out what someone else thinks.” There’s

Why You Need Killer Service and Product Descriptions Plus Examples

Good product descriptions can make potential customers associate feelings like love and courage with a product and can make them experience a range of different emotions. They can help people see the best in themselves and can be used to build a following and they can even be written in such a way that they magnify a person’s flaws or weaknesses to compel them to make a purchase. Sad but true. When it comes to services, an effective service description can help a potential client better understand the service you provide. It can explain why the service is necessary as well as show how the service will be beneficial. Ultimately, the most effective service and product descriptions persuade visitors to your website or blog to make a purchase or request a consultation. Why Linkedin is Better Than Facebook for Freelance Writers

Finding new clients and getting the word out about your services on social media isn't always easy. Contrary to what many people may believe it's about so much more than posting several times a day, conducting training sessions on Facebook Live, or even boosting posts or buying Facebook ads. These days, if you want your efforts to be successful you have to understand the differences between social media platforms so that you can determine which one will work best for your business.  When I decided to take the leap into copywriting the first thing I did was create a Facebook business page. I quickly realized that most of my followers were not seeing any of my posts due to changes in the social network's algorithms. Not to be deterred, I searched high and low for Facebook groups where I could network with other writers and find clients but soon discovered that most writers on Facebook did so for fun. It took a while, but I had to accept the fact that Facebook just

Keeping in touch with former and current clients or customers and all the members of your tribe can be very rewarding, but it can also be tedious and time-consuming. Thanks to changes in Facebook and other social media platforms what you post about your business or services may only be seen by a few of the people who matter most to your business. Reaching out by email is the next best way to make sure people stay in the loop about what you have to offer and remain connected to your brand.   But what do you do when you have a small budget or no budget at all for email marketing? You use MailChimp. MailChimp is a marketing platform for small businesses. It helps you stay in contact with your clients, customers and anyone else connected to the work you do by email. I like MailChimp because it has a great Forever Free Plan that allows you to send up to 2,000 emails a day and a total of 12,000 emails a month to up to 2,000 of your subscribers. MailChimp is more than ju

Main points of this post: 1. Be Sincere 2. Join the Discussion 3. Share What You Know 4. Look for opportunities 5. Slide in the DMs 1. Be Sincere Dropping the link to your website, asking people to follow your social media pages, or posting a random comment about an event you're having, or your business's sale or upcoming promotion can get you started off on the wrong foot in most Facebook groups. How I Found Free Tools for My Freelance Writing Business

Image
When I made the switch from writing for small local newspapers and websites to writing, editing, and proofreading documents and website content for businesses as a freelance content writer, I had no clue of what to do to get my freelance business up and running. I can remember staying up until two and three in the morning nearly every night, searching the internet for tips and tricks for starting a successful service-based business with little to no budget, and only finding bits and pieces of information that could help me. I felt like I was putting a 5,000-piece puzzle together. Whew, chile, the frustration. I watched dozens of YouTube videos, took free courses on Coursera and Udemy , and followed every social media influencer I could find who had something to say about starting a business. I attended countless webinars, joined every guru’s email list, and even checked out books at my local library. The problem was there was no way to sift good information from informat

With so many free photo editing and graphic design apps out there it can be difficult to find out which ones provide the best quality images. I’ve downloaded what seems like dozens only to uninstall them from my computer, tablet, and phone because they produced poor quality images that looked horrible on my blog and social media accounts. Professional photo editing programs like Adobe Photoshop that produce the highest quality images cost hundreds of dollars and when you’re just starting out as a freelance writer or getting your own business off of the ground top-notch software is just not in the budget. That’s why I’m so thankful I’ve discovered Canva. Canva is an application that's filled with fun graphic design tools that everyone from graphic design pros to people who have little to no design experience can use with ease. You can create an account on the website for free, and your credit card information isn’t required to register. Free Canva accounts hav
